Taina Flatz graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 2019 with a double degree in Fine Arts (Visual Arts) and Business.
Inspired by her Father’s Grandma’s doilies and TiVaeVae’s made by her Nana and Great Grandma on her Mother’s side, Taina decided to give crocheting a go. TiVaeVae’s are a form of artistic quilting native to the Cook Islands.
Taina now makes everything from jewellery to art forms and installations with the craft.
“For me, there is nothing more fascinating than making something new and spatial from a linear material. And to engage in a historically rich practise that for most of my female ancestors was the only acceptable creative outlet for them, it's both a gratifying and transcendental experience.” Taina Flatz
