Phillip Nielsen is a Gold Coast-based emerging ceramic artist whose sculptural practice explores queer identity, joy, intimacy and place. Working primarily in hand-built ceramics, his work is characterised by tactile surfaces, repeated curling forms and expressive glazes. Through his ongoing Bouvier series, Nielsen creates vessels, totems and wall works that move between functional object and sculpture. His practice draws on ideas of queer visibility, coded community, cruising landscapes and the Australian environment, often balancing playfulness with more intimate narratives. His work has been exhibited in Queensland and interstate and shortlisted for the 2026 Gosford Art Prize.
