Such is Life: A deep dive into the shallow pool of bogan culture
Artist: Regi Cherini
Events: Opening event 1 November 2024 6-8pm RSVP here

Such is Life is the outcome of works created during the inaugural Artisan Residency Program with artisan.

Inspired by the contemporary needlecraft movement, Cherini utilises embroidery to create still life compositions that challenge traditional notions of craft and fine art. Regi's approach subverts the domestic medium of embroidery, traditionally associated with femininity, to express seemingly incompatible subject matter.

With a post-modern sensibility, Cherini's work references yet rejects traditional contexts, demonstrating that embroidery can be an unconventional and subversive medium for examining and challenging issues of gender, equality, class, and culture. Her pieces are bold statements that blur the lines between craft and fine art, inviting viewers to reconsider imposed boundaries and hierarchies of creativity. Regi's experiences in remote living have provided her unique perspectives on unconventional characters and lifestyles, which infuse her work with a distinctive voice. By elevating embroidery from its traditional utilitarian or decorative intent, she creates pieces that are both visually striking and conceptually rich.

In a world where craft and art intersect, Regi Cherini's work stands as a testament to the power of reimagining traditional mediums to address contemporary issues. Her embroidered compositions invite viewers to question societal norms and explore the complexities of gender and culture through a new lens.
