ODE - to Gwyn is about celebrating Australia's most beloved potter, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott OAM, with 12 contemporary potters shown in the style of a still life. Known for her love of still life, form and function, Gwyn has left an indelible legacy that is in the hearts of all Queensland, and indeed Australian potters.
‘Ode’, by definition, is a lyrical poem, with varying length and style, usually addressed or musing on a person or thing. The twelve Queensland potters are the lines of this ode to Gwyn and displayed around the room like lines of a poem.
A great deal of gratitude is extended to Patricia Szonert for the loan of her precious collection of Gwyn Hanssen Pigott’s Blue Trail 2005 and to Nathan Shepherdson for his own ode to Gwyn.
