Donalee Moriarty is a ceramic artist whose practice is a dialogue between structure and spontaneity. Drawing inspiration from architectural forms and weathered surfaces, she explores the tension between precision and unpredictability, permanence and transformation. Moriarty hand-builds geometric forms with deliberate intention, then surrenders these to the unpredictable process of saggar firing that leaves its mark in smoke, flame, and atmosphere. Working from her home studio in Tulmur (Ipswich), Queensland, she continually pushes the boundaries of clay, surface, and firing to create pieces that evoke both history and impermanence.
