Baylee Griffin

Townsville, Queensland

Baylee Griffin (they/she) is a ceramicist based in Gurrambillbarra (Townsville), whose practice is an act of resilience and reciprocity, rooted in identity and embodied ecocentrism—the belief that the rights and needs of humans are not more important than those of other living things.

Their studio practice is rooted in connection to land and materials, where they endeavour to find and create with accessible local materials. Griffin has been working with ceramics for seven years, the last four years dedicated full-time to their practice and community art facilitation.

They have been awarded multiple regional and state grants for their arts practice for research and development of bodies of work. Griffin is a two-time finalist in the North Queensland Ceramic Awards, has exhibited throughout Queensland, and since their first large-scale solo show at Umbrella Gallery Contemporary Arts in 2024, has secured two residencies: Burnt Dirt (NSW) and La Wayaka Current (Chile).
