Rebloom Vessel No.15

$500.00

Material
Wheel-thrown, single-fired to 1400°C in a wood-fired kiln using local Taiwanese clay without the use of glazes.

Dimensions
12 cm x 10 cm

Information
The selected collection is marked by Taiwanese anagama-style wood-firing Hua-Shi Kiln’s 1400°C single high fired without glaze, and honours the elemental relationship of clay, fire and wood. The collection of vases relates to each other by the shell-like or petal-like attachment, each containing a piece of clay from another vessel - remnants of clay left behind on throwing bats during the making process.

Fired in now almost 30 years old Hua-Shi Kiln, the accumulation of natural glaze from the internal wall occasionally drips down as "kiln sweat" on the new work, which now holds many years of firing memory of the kiln. The vessels speak a metaphor to embrace both the obvious and unseen challenges we face, individually and collectively. Each vessel is a one-off creation that carries memory, place, and inner transformation.
