About the Artist - Belinda Fraser
Belinda Fraser is a visual artist and a secondary English teacher, who is currently based in Meganjin (Brisbane, Australia). Belinda’s artistic practice explores the relationships and connection of mob with Country with a focus on tactile sensory experiences. She views her work as a juxtaposition of protesting the colony and making contributions to Warrabal mob. Belinda believes that by challenging colonial records – like those of Norman Tindale, she will contribute research and repatriation of skills and knowledges back to her own children and mob.

Information
This sculptural piece was created on Yagara Country, creating a mindful connection to Country and ancestors. The emu feathers furthers my connection as the emu is my totem and because the feathers are dual rachis from a single shaft, which reminds me that I am never alone, my ancestors are always where I need them, providing calm and peace. The addition of gum tree branches from Yagara Country, created a structure that is similar to a nest or spider’s web, cocooning the birth of something new as well as representing my connection to Country and ancestors.
