wheelthrown and encrusted glazed vessel with beeswax
Information
XL black lava and tan encrusted vessel with mint and rust and beeswax
Rachel’s multi-vessel installation artworks, such as 'memory's shroud', draw on wheel thrown ceramic vessels to symbolise the body’s memory of experiences within regional landscapes. The work demonstrates innovation using vessels (historically referencing function) that vary in clay body, size, application of texture, glaze and firing atmosphere. Figurative abstractions of memories, vessel surfaces are deliberately altered with a 'shroud' made from clay, glaze, and non traditional materials including natural beeswax. The symbolic shroud developed on the surface of the vessel articulates the shape and nature of the memory, depicting the memory triggers of the landscapes in which they were formed.
Note: All available-for-purchase works exhibited in 2026 UNLEASHED+ can be collected after the exhibition closure in November.
