Beyond Boundaries: Where Cities Become Hotels
In their second year, interior design students at QCAD embarked on an intriguing journey to delve into hyperreality and our profound connection with images, blurring the line between reality and simulation. Challenging conventional hotel design, students carefully selected small, often overlooked spaces across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, labeling them as "pixels," each carrying a distinctive story – some steeped in history, others holding the charm of local secrets. They transformed these spaces into hotel rooms, offering guests an authentic local experience. These pixels serve as portals to a unique exploration of the city's culture, essentially transforming the city into the hotel itself. This innovative approach not only challenges tradition but also reshapes how we perceive spaces and images in a new light.
