SMALL OBJECT SPACES (SOS)
SOS @ Metro Arts | Jul & Aug 2026
Artist: Elysha Rei
Medium: Contemporary Paper Cutting
Location: Window Gallery, Metro Arts, 97 Boundary St, West End QLD 4101
Drawing from her Japanese heritage and nomadic upbringing throughout the Asia Pacific, Elysha Rei creates intricate paper works that explore cultural connection and the meaning of home. Inspired by traditional Japanese decorative objects – from koinobori fish kites to kokeshi dolls – her delicate compositions transform paper into landscapes of memory and belonging.
Through her meticulous craftsmanship, Rei reimagines the cherished ornaments of her childhood into contemporary expressions that bridge cultures and generations, creating a dialogue between traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern artistic practice with objects, things which are with or without imbued meanings.
