Workshop: Expressive Embroidery with Karina Seljak

Dive into the world of sustainable design with a fun, hands-on workshop!
Repair is an important part of extending product lifecycles, an important aspect of sustainable design. This workshop will equip you with a practical and expressive embroidery technique to repair rips, holes, or stains on your favourite garments or home textiles. Bring in an item you love and learn how to use scrap fabric and colourful yarn to create a patch that not only fixes your textiles but creates a feature that is unique to you. Repair saves you money, empowers you to restore the things you love, and helps release pressure on the planet from overconsumption. Repairing your stuff with others can be easy, fun, connecting and meditative – and in this case, really beautiful.
All materials provided, but to get the most out of the workshop, bring a garment in need of repair.

Panel Discussion: Sustainably Made Design in Queensland

Our esteemed panel of Queensland designers and makers will share their unique perspectives on sustainable design practices, supporting local industries, and building a circular economy. Hear from Clare Kennedy (Five Mile Radius), Professor Beck Davis (QCAD), Shari Lyon (Fluxwood Lighting), Paivi Piotto (Ebb&Flow), and Karina Seljak (Seljak Brand) as they discuss the transformative impact of their work. This thought-provoking discussion will be moderated by interior designer Angela Spillane (Studiospillane).
