Information
'Ovenwear' is part a new series of works utilising existing pre-enamelled steel to create wearable objects.
These works began with an oven tray found at Reverse Garbage, which I cut up, retaining the existing shapes and forms within the tray. Repurposing and reusing material has long been part of my studio practice, and I enjoy letting gleaned and collected materials dictate the outcome of the work.
During this process, I found myself reflecting on the nature of stuff and the meaning of its’ experiences. Visions of my 1960’s and 1970’s childhood as part of a big family where domestic life often revolved around the kitchen were in my mind, and subconsciously I found myself choosing the evocative colours of the era for the enamelling process.
