Jacqueline Kaytar is a Croatian-Australian artist living and working on Turrbal and Yuggera Country. Beginning in textiles, Kaytar has developed a practice spanning sculpture, lighting and furniture.
Through alchemic experimentation with metal, textiles, minerals and beeswax, her works transform through elemental process, the hand and time. Materials are selected for their symbolic associations and natural transformations, with oxidation, plant dyeing and patina remaining active within the work. Guided by an interest in the animacy of matter, Kaytar explores the relationship between people and objects, and the ways human touch can reawaken materials into something animate. Her works consider transformation not as a fixed act, but as an ongoing state of becoming.
