About the Artist - Pearl Deeral

Pearl Deemal was born in Cooktown and one of four siblings, her passion for art (described by her) is that its a "peaceful way of cultural expression".
Pearl has been a member of the Hopevale Arts & Cultural Centre since 2017 but also has a passion for sewing, with a degree in teaching Pearl has been a teaching in many different communities.
In 2018 Pearl participated in Natural Dye workshops which seen her has design Silk Scarf motifs using natural bush dye's with knowledge handed down by community elders.
About the Design - Yugu (trees)
“In my younger years, I found great joy in climbing trees and felt a profound comfort in their presence. Trees are not only beautiful but also evoke a sense of belonging to the land. They provide shelter and food for wildlife, serving as a vital reminder of our responsibility to preserve the environment.”
