Handwoven twine and raffia bag with strap handmade by Paula Savage of MOA Arts, Torres Strait.
Paula Savage lives and works in Kubin Community on Moa Island in the Torres Strait. She is from the Saganilgal clan group from the village of Dabu, and the Kaurareg Nation of Muralag and Kiriri.
Paula works primarily with weaving and lino printing but also has a natural talent for jewellery making, drawing, carving, tie-dying and fabric printing. Her works embody the cultural traditions she lives by. Whether they are weavings, lino prints or works on paper, they are all stories about her lived experience; the coming together of memory, history, culture and language.
