Metal and Jewellery
Quandamooka Country, Queensland
Bruce is a Salt Water man from Quandamooka. He lives on the Gold Coast where he works from a small studio and in his home which he shares with his wife Deborah. Growing up on country Bruce lived in Minjerribah and have worked for government, private and community organisations.
"Art was perhaps the only thing I was good at in school. Now that my children are grown up and settled and I am retired I can focus on something that I love doing- art. I have a BA in Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art and I sell paintings and jewellery online. Print and Jewellery making are my passion. Before Europeans came to our country our people traded throughout this country and that is what inspires me. As a young boy I made necklaces using bark for string and shells. Now I cut, shape and polish stones, and work with other precious metals to make Contemporary Indigenous Australian Jewellery. Jewellery that I hope invokes a feeling of connection to country."
