Clan Dingaal Warra and Bulgan Warra
Teneille was traditionally adopted into the Dingaal Warra and Bulgun Warra Clan. She grew up in Hope Vale and enjoyed going hunting and fishing with family.
“I remember when I was younger, we would go down to Bull crossing and watch TV, it was the only place you could pick up the channels, lots of other families use to go down and watch TV in the bush. We used to make a big bed on the back of our green dodge truck. We would camp down there. My grandmother and grandfather use to go fishing for jew fish too and we would make a soup, and we would eat it with damper”. Teneille used to work as a Sports and Rec Coordinator for a few years before leaving due to family commitments. Two years ago, she applied for the job as the Gallery Assistant and being around all her Aunties and Grandmother’s inspired her to start painting again.
“I used to do art in school and really loved it. I would do a lot of pencil drawings and liked to make things for my children when they were growing up, but I didn’t do much painting. Watching my elders at the Art Centre made me want to learn more. They provide me with a lot of guidance and are willing to teach me different techniques. It’s funny sometimes because I’ll have my Aunty on one side of me sitting and my other Aunty (I call her Mum because she is closely related to me through my father) on the other side of me and they’ll both tell me how to paint. We have a good laugh sometimes. I’m honoured and privileged to have them guiding me through my art journey.
