Tom Summers makes ceramic objects that draw on familiar forms, especially vases, reworking them as architectural supports for spatial and visual experimentation. His work is built through a mix of slipcasting, press moulding, slab building and coiling, allowing each object to move between precision and hand-built construction.

Colour exploration is also a major part of his work, shown through the luridly tinted surfaces made from stained clay bodies that are left unglazed. Drawing on architectural details and the strange logic of surrealism, Summers is interested in how everyday objects can be reimagined and disrupt ordinary perception. His practice tests how ceramics can move between art and design contexts, and how those boundaries can be redefined.
