Laura Pascoe

Brisbane, Queensland

Laura Pascoe is a Meanjin-based ceramic artist, designer, and art curator with a background in architecture. She has been painting since the 1990s, practicing architecture since 2001, working with ceramics since 2013, and co-directing an artist-run initiative since 2018.

Originally trained as an architect, Laura turned to ceramics as a way to move beyond the structure and constraint of her professional field. She found freedom in the material responsiveness of clay, and in the experimental, intuitive processes that ceramics invite. Her works explore contrast—between thick and thin, fine and chunky, organic and geometric—creating forms that are both deliberate and fluid.

Nature is a continual influence in her practice, not through direct representation, but through the evocation of natural rhythms, variation, and tactile qualities. Her surfaces often emerge spontaneously, and her forms invite close attention. In recent works, she has returned to functional ceramics, particularly wheel-thrown porcelain vessels, exploring material purity, subtle glaze interaction, and the quiet unpredictability of wood firing.

Across her practice, Laura seeks to make work that invites personal connection and close looking—pieces that feel grounded, open, and alive.
