Silly Girl
by Jessica Nothdurft

Presented by artisan in collaboration with Queensland Ballet Thomas Dixon Centre, on display in the Promenade of the Thomas Dixon Centre, in 406 Montague Road, West End.

23 July - 23 August 2024

artisan is thrilled to present the second iteration of "Silly Girl" by Jessica Nothdurft, in an exciting collaboration with Queensland Ballet at the Thomas Dixon Centre.

About the Artist:
Jessica Nothdurft is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brisbane, Queensland. A graduate of Queensland University of Technology, Nothdurft works across various media, including oil, ink, silver, gold, bronze, brass, copper, and titanium. Her art serves as a visual autobiography, exploring universal themes through intimate relationships, youth, emotional responses, and the lifelong impacts of domestic and family violence.

Nothdurft's distinctive style is characterised by a pared-back aesthetic that suggests narratives beyond mere representation. Her works are both observations and interpretations, portrayed with a pure and simple approach that invites viewers to engage with deeper, often challenging subjects.

The Exhibition
Building on the success of her previous exhibition of small bronzes, "Silly Girl" continues to showcase Nothdurft's evolution as an artist. This second iteration expands her exploration of form and narrative, presenting a new body of work that bridges her background in jewellery with her growing sculptural practice.

Visitors can expect to encounter pieces that embody Nothdurft's signature style - hyper-restrained line works that transform personal circumstances into universal scenes. Through her faux-naive approach, the artist delves into the complexities of human experience, exploring the existence of struggle beneath the surface and the many facets of shame.
