This ceramic sculpture is a nostalgic ode to tactile play, evoking memories of spinning tops dancing on their axis. Vibrant patterns and colors recall a bygone era when minds were free to spin and twirl. They are perhaps the most enigmatic of mythological themes. Sometimes, compared to the European notion of mermaids, they exist as spiritual beings living in freshwater streams and rock pools, particularly those in the stone country. The spirit Yawkyawk is usually described and depicted with the tail of a fish. Thus, the Kuninjku people sometimes call them ngalberddjenj, which literally means ‘the young woman who has a tail like a fish’. They have long hair, which is associated with trailing blooms of green algae (called man-bak in Kuninjku). At times, they leave their aquatic homes to walk about on dry land, particularly at night.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Morrison Studio's","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53354857791806,"sku":"MORR005","price":1000.0,"currency_code":"AUD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0002\/2206\/8795\/files\/20260521_021153362_iOS.jpg?v=1779332248"}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0002\/2206\/8795\/collections\/20260521_015629017_iOS_10928aaf-17b3-4944-99f5-a436db63c9f6.jpg?v=1779359548","url":"https:\/\/artisan.org.au\/collections\/morrison-studios.oembed","provider":"artisan","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
