About the workshop:

Bring the beauty of nature into your living space with the art of contemporary Ikebana guided by artist Lily Karmatz. With Lily's expert guidance, you will learn how to apply lines, space and asymmetry to create a freestyle Ikebana arrangement based on the traditional design principles of Ikebana. Your workshop begins with a brief introduction of Ikebana history and its zen philosophy, a floral demonstration using the tools and techniques.

What you’ll get:

• All floral materials are supplied and a ceramic bowl with a foam

• A pair of garden scissors

• Snacks, tea and coffee

About Lily

Lily Karmatz was born in Malaysia and now lives and practices her art in Brisbane, Australia. She is a visual artist and also an Ikebana artist and teacher. She has taught Sogetsu Ikebana at the Brisbane Institute of Art, public venues and at her own studio for more than ten years.

Lily is also an accomplished painter, sculptor, ceramist and a mixed media artist. Her work is often ephemeral in nature and large in scale. A few of her Ikebana and installation works can be seen in the publication Ikebana Today by an international publisher, Stichting Kunstboek, Belgium.

You will be offered socially distanced seating, access to your own PPE sanitation options at your workspace, and a large extremely well ventilated workshop venue. Workshop Cancellation Policy:

Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached. In this event participants will be refunded accordingly and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:

Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator.

Bookings cancelled up to one week prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted.

Bookings cancelled within a week of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded.

You are welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement in writing to workshop@artisan.org.au.
