About the workshop:

Join us for an intimate and informal workshop with renowned Indonesian artist Jumaadi. This shadow puppetry workshop will be an exploratory experience looking at elements of play. Working under the guidance of the artist you will explore puppetry in two dimensional forms cut out in a variety of paper based materials. The puppets will further be decorated with your own drawn designs, and an added mechanical element. Concluding the workshop you will have the option to engage in a collaborative shadow puppet performance with the artist and other participants. Manipulating the puppetry mechanisms in the projected light, you will see your puppets come to life in a theatrical performance cast dramatically onto the gallery walls, accompanied with sounds and words conducted en masse.

Extensively exhibiting in Australia and overseas, Jumaadi’s poetic art practice delves into fusing the old and new - contemporary and traditional art forms. Gain insights into the artists practice while engaging in the meditative practice of art making within a striking gallery location surrounded by the artists’ inspirational works.
