About Leah Emery:

Leah Emery is Brisbane-based artist whose practice is concerned with packaging often difficult content in a shell of mirth and whimsy to pursue her storytelling. Her works serve as a protest to the cultural etiquette of withholding healthy public access to topics surrounding gender identity, sex and intimacy despite being so quintessential to the human experience, as well as an objection to cultural tendencies to promote and reward an unhealthy manipulated, homogenised body aesthetic.

Leah has been exhibiting around Australia and internationally since 2005. She has amassed multiple group and solo shows worldwide, been a finalist in the Blake Prize, Contemporary Art Prize, Kennedy Prize Foundation's Choice Award, among others, as well as being featured in Huffington Post, Juxtapoz, and a documentary on SBS2's The Feed

Leah has hosted workshops in Brisbane and Bundaberg as well as formulating an easy to follow beginner’s guide to starting, troubleshooting and finishing cross stitch. She has also conducted Skype sessions for cross stitchers in Berlin.
