About the workshop:

Create a personalised lamp or night light that’s both green in colour and green in nature. Join glass artists Jo Bone and Aaron Micallef as they guide you through the design and creation of your unique Green2 lamp cover, sourced from an upcycled glass bottle. You will learn the processes of stenciling, masking and sandblasting and realise your design as a permanently etched and image on the lamp’s glass surface. Your glass cover will be matched with an LED base to finish your lamp.

Jo and Aaron will bring their portable sandblaster, an item of studio equipment employed by many glass artists to achieve texture, fine details and surface finishes on their work.

This workshop has been specifically tailored for teens, but if you want you can bring an enthusiastic adult. Adult participants you must be accompanying a teen and hold a separate ticket!

Join us for this fun workshop - an adventurous foray into the world of creative glass design and manufacturing!

Cost: $60 per person. 

Must be 12 years or older to participate. An accompanying adults is welcome, but must also purchase a ticket. Each ticket holder will complete one lamp in the workshop.

Limited to eight participants.

Included in workshop ticket:

  • Up cycled glass lamp cover (one per participant) This lamp has been cut an polished by the artists prior to the workshop, so you will not be handling sharp edges.
  • LED lamp base (battery powered)
  • All tools, materials and safety equipment are supplied, including the sandblaster

  • Closed shoes
  • Ideas / drawings for inspiration (optional)

About Jo and Aaron:

Jo Bone and Aaron Micallef have collaborated in hot glass and shared studio space in Brisbane since 2012. In addition to their mutual passion for the medium of glass, they possess shared and complementary aesthetic approaches revolving around pattern, symmetry and intricacy in the natural world.

Jo Bone is a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London and one of Queensland’s foremost glass artists, having worked in the medium for nearly 20 years. Jo’s work is held in prominent national and international collections and she is known for her commissions delivering unique glass trophy and award pieces.

Aaron Micallef has an established career in science, but has developed a close relationship with glass developing experience in both the UK and Australia. His hot glass practice is complemented by photography, reinterpreting glass through the dual lenses of the camera and patterns observed in nature.

Workshop Cancellation Policy:

Please note this workshop can be cancelled for unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached. In this event participants will be refunded accordingly and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:

Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator.

Bookings cancelled up to one week prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted.

Bookings cancelled within a week of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded.
