LITTLE BIG THINGS: Australian Indigenous Small Objects

LITTLE BIG THINGS

Main Gallery and Small Object Space

27 August – 5 November 2022

Place, identity, culture and survival are some of the commonly explored themes in traditional and contemporary Australian Indigenous art. In the right hands, anything can become a vessel for storytelling and a repository for meaning. This exhibition stems from a fascination with, and a deep respect for First Nations practitioners’ unique approach to the materials in their works.  Each work contains a story of significance. Every story deserves to be told.

The artists in this exhibition come from various walks of life - their commonality is that they identify as First Nations practitioners with a unique approach to the embodied meaning in their materials.

In consultation with Barkindji man, artist and curator Kent Morris; the exhibition attempts to frame the curatorial presentation somewhat differently, to raise and answer questions about agency, erasure, privilege and success.
